Abstract

A model of the muon is constructed in which a massless spin-1 wave, designated the wavon, orbits an electron on a null-geodesic path. The radius of the orbit is given by general-relativistic considerations: the wavon orbits where the effective gravitational force is zero. The mass of the muon is the mass of the electron plus the energy of the wavon derived from quantum mechanics. The resultmμ=me (1+3/2 1/α), where α is the fine-structure constant yields,mμ=me(206.554), in good agreement with the experimental mass ratio of 206.767.
