Abstract

This paper is concerned with the heuristic fuzzy approach to estimating and controling the flows and pressures of a water supply network system. As the water supply network becomes large scale, the observation and control of the flows and pressures become important for system management, such as water leakage reduction, pump cost saving and constant distribution. It is, however, practically difficult to detect all information of the pressures or flows necessary for the optimization, which causes an obstacle to the implementation of an on-line computer control system. To overcome this unobservability and uncontrollability problem, the estimation and optimization are carried out using the heuristic fuzzy decision mechanism. We discuss the procedure of this method, associated with an illustrative example showing that the method is appropriate for the optimal on-line control.
