Abstract
ABSTRACT This paper presents the application of a design method for a partial solar heating system of polyvalent modular dryers called “GJ-ABAQUE” to the drying of thick layers of grains. This method is based on the use of charts or polynomial correlations. In the actual case where the drying air is not recycled, we only need one chart which allows one to determine the fraction of the monthly heating load supply by solar energy as a function of two dimensionless parameters. The latter implies the use of monthly average radiation data, the collector surface and estimates of drying loads. The “GJ-ABAQUE” method was applied for drying 777 kg of corn, corresponding to 1 m3 of fresh product, in a thick layer in each modular dryer.
