Abstract
Eiler etal. used cryo-electron microscopy to determine a 2.49Å resolution structure of Giardia lamblia 80S ribosome bound to tRNA, mRNA, and the anti-protozoal drug emetine. The structure reveals some critical aspects of translation in G.lamblia, including the lack of ribosomal protein RACK1, and how emetine blocks translation by interacting with both the ribosome and mRNA.
