A ‘galinha-d'angola' no contexto etnodialetal do Tocantins: ‘cocar' ou ‘angolista'?

Abstract

The semantic field of fauna has been the object of analysis by dialectologists, especially with the use of corpora collected by linguistic atlases. It is in this scope that the present research is inserted, aimed at the analysis and discussion of the designations given to the "galinha-d'angola" (guinea fowl) in the state of Tocantins to understand how the ways of naming this bird follow dialectal paths resulting from migratory processes in Brazil. For this purpose, the designations obtained for question number 49 – 'guinea fowl' –, collected by the Linguistic Atlas Topodynamic and Topoestatic of Tocantins (ALiTTETO) (SILVA, 2018) in 12 cities (96 informants, stratified by sex, age and type of mobility), were selected. As a result, the ways to name the bird in Tocantins follow dialectal paths resulting from migratory processes: the variant 'cocar' denotes identification with the Midwest region, while 'angolist' with the South and, finally, 'galinha- d'angola' is widespread throughout Brazil.
