Abstract

A pokayoke stoplight control (PSC) system is developed using an on-line fuzzy logic based approach. Defect prevention (pokayoke) and stoplight controlling capabilities are critical in unmanned manufacturing cells. Based on statistical process control (SPC) technology, a fuzzy clustering method is used to provide rules for decision making in the manufacturing process. Compared to conventional SPC, the proposed system can be easily adapted to the specific characteristics of a particular machine to continuously assess quality on-line, resulting in flexible and controllable operations that reduce costs in the long run and produce better quality products.
