Abstract

This paper proposes a frequency scanning array antenna based on magneto-electric (ME) dipole structure with enhanced scanning range and gain flatness. The antenna has four elements with ME dipole structure which is designed by combining a bowtie-shape aperture functioned as a magneto dipole and a pair of metallic patches loaded on the top layer acting as electric dipole. Then array antenna is designed by consisting four elements in a meander-line manner. In this way, its scanning range is enhanced covering from -32° to +62°. In addition, the ME dipole ensures a stable gain with gain variation less than 3dB over the entire impedance bandwidth from 29-36.1GHz (21.8%). And the peak gains of the radiation patterns vary from 9.2 to 12.2 dBi.
