Abstract

This paper outlines a prototype framework for operation of pipeless batch plants. This support environment has been developed to provide process operators with a tool for planning production strategy and carry out process analysis. Emphasis is placed on characterising the dynamic characteristics of the processing policy. It incorporates facilities for giving a complete description of batch production processes, which including dynamic scheduling, waste minimisation, monitoring of the plant performance, consistent with safety and flexibility. This paper discusses the philosophy of the framework and the architecture of the supporting system necessary for planning of multiple product concurrent processing.
