Abstract

This study aims to reflect the current training model of health professionals, based on the biomedical model that reflects the authoritarian, unidisciplinary position and with intense use of the apparatus that profits from the disease. The vertical professional-patient relationship hinders the reception, counseling, and, consequently, the maintenance of breastfeeding. The methodology used was an integrative literature review of the last five years. It highlights the importance of improving the communication skills of health professionals, reformulating the current health training model and thus enabling the rise of breastfeeding rates in Brazil.
