Abstract
A new functional monomer with crosslinkable allyl and benzocyclobutene (BCB) units has been successfully synthesized through a facile procedure. Based on this monomer, a low dielectric polymer has been prepared, which exhibits good dielectric properties at a frequency of 5 GHz with a dielectric constant (Dk) of 2.56 and a dielectric loss (Df) of 1.20 × 10-3. This polymer also shows low water uptake of <0.34% even immersing it in boiling water for 24 h. The polymer displays coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of 42.54 ppm /℃ from 30 ℃ to 250 ℃. These data indicate that this new functional monomer is a potential precursor for the application as the low dielectric materials in the new generation of communication technology.
