Abstract

The flora of the Oatka Beach Addition, Minnesota Point, Minnesota, a landfill area deposited in 1935, was sampled during 1966 and 1967. The 161 species of vascular plants identified were compared to a plant list from the same site published 30 years previously. This comparison showed that there has been an increase in the number of plant families, the number of species, and the number of woody species on the site. A calculation of an index of similarity between the two floristic lists gave a value of 28.0%, indicating little relationship between the floras. The floristic changes have also been accompanied by a significant change in the proportion of kinds of life-forms inhabiting the site.
