Abstract

Abstract The objective of the work is to synthesize a novel ether linked tetraglycidyl 1, 4′-bis (4-amine-phenoxy) benzene epoxy resin (TGBAPB) via 1, 4′-bis (4-amine-phenoxy) benzene (BAPB) and epichlorohydrin. The other objective of the work is to explore the possible use of TGBAPB as a possible toughening agent for diglycidyl epoxy (DGEBA), which requires a substantial improvement in toughness. The TGBAPB/DGEBA of 50:50 blend combinations is selectively taken and reinforced with OMMT nano clay with varying percentages (1 wt%, 3 wt% and 5 wt%) in order to study the reinforcing effect of OMMT nano clay towards thermal and mechanical properties of TGBAPB/DGEBA blend epoxy nanocomposites in comparison with those of the neat DGEBA and TGBAPB. The mechanical properties like tensile, flexural and impact values of TGBAPB/DGEBA blend epoxy nanocomposites are found to be better than that of neat epoxy.
