Abstract
Novel electromagnetic wave absorber with strong absorption and excellent oxidation resistance composed of a FeSiAl core and nitride coating shell was synthesized by surface nitriding process in terms of its simplicity and efficiency. Uniform nitride coatings with bilayer structure have been obtained and the inner layer mainly consists of silicon nitrides while the outer layer contains mixed iron and silicon nitrides due to selective nitridation. Detailed microstructure and composition distribution of the coating correlated to the absorption performance have been systematically investigated. The interaction between the FeSiAl alloy and N element has been defined to consider the energetics of the formation for different nitrides. Enhanced wave absorption is achieved with wide absorption bandwidth (8.11 GHz), covering almost the entire X and Ku band.
