This study aims to understand the process of historicization of German immigrants’ language in the region of the Missions of Rio Grande do Sul, reflecting on the policies of linguistic interdiction of Estado Novo. We emphasize how schools, at the time, constituted themselves as an Ideological Apparatus of the State, determining what could and should be said and taught, as well as regulating discursive practices. Therefore, we are based on Discourse Analysis and History of Linguistic Ideas.
