Abstract

A general method for the solution of dynamic elasto/viscoplastic solid problems is presented. This method is an extension of ray theory to cater for dynamic elasto/viscoplastic deformations. The method reduces the elasto/viscoplastic problem to a sequence of elastic problems with initial strains. The solution of this problem is determined by using four displacement functions. Using the foregoing method, the solution is derived for the dynamic elasto/viscoplastic behaviour of a thick-walled spherical shell subjected to internal impact load. The numerical results show how the dynamic stresses in a sphere with viscoplastic properties vary with time.
