Abstract
The dual time stepping approach is known to be the extension of the pseudo-compressibility method to the calculation of unsteady incompressible flows. Pseudo-time marching compressible flow solvers are used. In this paper, the dual time stepping approach is extended to solve coupled equations of incompressible fluid flows and rigid body motion in fluid–structure interaction problems. The flow solver is the general CDF code EOLE, developed since 1990, for incompressible steady or unsteady flows and based on an original pseudo-unsteady system. Developments of EOLE have been directed in particular towards applications relating to steady or unsteady hydrodynamics problems with free surface (such as sea-keeping, wave drag, sloshing in tanks).
