Abstract

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is the prominent technology used by many mobile devices. WLAN normally operates in ISM band of 2.4GHz. ISM band is overcrowded due to the development and usage by different mobile devices for variety of applications. It is preferable to shift to Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (U-NII) band works in 5GHz to mitigate the interference and to support the users. This work describes a compact square patch dual band antenna suitable for WLAN and Wi-Max Applications. The antenna is built over low cost FR4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.2. The antenna resonates at two bands namely 4.75GHz and 5.4GHz with return loss of -28dB and -29.5dB respectively. The bandwidth of 4.75GHz is 75MHz and 5.4GHz is 120MHz. The efficiency of 5.4GHZ is better than 4.75GHz band.
