Abstract

This paper establishes a distributed optimization platform based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) for optimal electric vehicle charging management. The proposed method solves a comprehensive mixed-integer quadratic programming (MIQP) problem to minimizes the charging and battery degradation cost for electric vehicle (EV) fleets considering individual charging and discharging constraints and asymmetric price profiles. The main contribution of this paper is to establish a coordination layer between EVAs to fulfill the local EVAs’ objectives and constraints. Numerical tests evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed coordinated ADMM platform (CAP). The results validate that coordination between EVAs enhances the smoothness of the aggregated load profile.
