Abstract

In this study, we propose a novel method for the preparation of dissolvable microneedle (DMN) patch directly attached on a medical adhesive tape for transdermal drug delivery. The fabrication process is simple and time-saving without second curing procedures and the fabricated DMN patch exhibits high flexibility and dosage accuracy owing to the property of the medical adhesive tape. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (SCMC) was adopted as matrix material due to its biodegradability and mechanical hardness. The MN patch shows great ability to penetrate skin ex vivo and in vivo by utilizing porcine skin and the living mouse. Most importantly, it possesses good capacity to carry drugs and locally release drug molecules into mouse skin by adopting Rhodamine B as the drug analog.
