Abstract
Abstract The contribution of the two-step reaction, consisting in diffractive production of the N ∗ (1470) resonance and its decay into a neutron, to the inclusive neutron spectrum in pp collisions, is studied in detail. It is found that, at low p ⊥ and near x = 1, the effect gives rise to a peak which, in principle, can be detected in experiments with a good momentum resolution.
