Abstract
Using a Langevin equationcoupled with a statistical model, we calculate pre-scission giantdipole resonance (GDR) γ-ray multiplicity of nuclei194Pb, 200Pb, 206Pb, and 200Os. It isdemonstrated that with increasing the isospin asymmetry of thesefissioning nuclei the sensitivity of the emitted γmultiplicity to the nuclear viscosity coefficient is decreasedsignificantly. For 200Os nucleus, this γ-ray emissionis no longer sensitive to the magnitude of the viscositycoefficient. In addition, the effect of the isospin asymmetry onthe γ rays as a probe of nuclear dissipation is reducedwith increasing angular momentum. These results suggest that toobtain a more accurate information of the viscosity coefficient bythe measurement of pre-scission GDR γ-ray multiplicity itis better to choose those compound systems with small isospinasymmetry and low spin.
