Abstract

This paper presents a design methodology for microprogrammed control units of full Custom CMOS integrated circuits. The proposed multiple language interpretation levels (instructions, microinstructions and nanoinstructions) provide a fast and structured way to realize an area-efficient controller from the specifications to the geometrical layout. A 20th order programmable FIR filter will, as an example, illustrate the methodology.
