Abstract
Drawing on deliberate metaphor theory and framing theory, this study takes the environmental cartoons for case analysis and explore how deliberate metaphors construct in multimodal cartoons and how to convey social communicative meaning deliberately. The analysis founded three types of surface frames: HUMAN frame, MONSTER frame and DEATH frame. Deliberate metaphors attempt to invite readers to understand environmental cartoons from the frames in which the source domain is constructed. The cartoons embody the value of harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature and advocate individuals to protect the environment.
