Abstract

This all-day Symposium was held at the Fourteenth National Meeting of the Operations Research Society of America, in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 23, 1958. In a new and rapidly developing discipline, it is advisable to assess progress periodically, to examine the record both on the credit and on the debit side, and to look for future trends. It was for this reason that this Symposium was organized. Six papers were presented by the representatives of the six principal operations-research agencies of the national-defense establishments of the United States and Canada. These were followed by concluding remarks by Omond M. Solandt. Unfortunately Hugh J. Miser's paper, on the work of the Operations Analysis Office of the US Air Force, was not made available for publication herewith.
