Abstract
Routing in Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is challenging because of unpredictable variations of wireless environments. Traditional mechanisms have been proved that the routing performance would get deteriorated and ideal metrics must be explored. Cross-layer based approaches for routing optimization have been paid more attention in the recent. Based on information obtaining from wireless channel conditions in physical layer, link quality and congestion in MAC layer, Minimum hops in network layer, this paper introduces a novel cross-layer hybrid metric for ad hoc on-demand distance vector routing (AODV) in WMN. Simulation results have demonstrated that this new metric can greatly improve AODV routing performance in terms of end-to-end delay and throughput in contrast to the traditional minimum hop metric routing.
