Abstract

A periodic microstrip leaky wave antenna with ten CRLH unit-cells was proposed. The CRLH unit-cell was consist of metallic vias and slots that can be considered as the equivalent shunt inductance and the equivalent series capacitance. The proposed leaky wave antenna could provide either backward or forward radiation pattern and the main beam was able to scan through the broadside continually, implying that the open stopband was suppressed. Simulations were made by HFSS, the antenna was operative from 6.4 GHz to 8.6 GHz and at about 6.9 GHz the main beam reached the broadside.
