Abstract

Guideline statements are necessary to provide a standardized, evidence-based approach to decrease the risk of perioperative infections while maintaining the principles of antibiotic stewardship. Both the American Urological Association (AUA) and the European Association of Urology (EAU) have published recommendations for antibiotic prophylaxis for urologic surgeries. However, the specific recommendations addressing prophylaxis for inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) placement are inconsistent and in need of revision given our contemporary understanding of IPP infections.
