decision of the Central Committee of the CPSU, The Tasks of Party Propaganda Under Present-Day Conditions, points out: The concern for the formation of a communist world outlook, for the lofty consciousness of pupils and students of secondary schools assumes especially great importance at present. Efforts must be made to ensure that in the process of learning different subjects, the students and pupils acquire a materialist world outlook, the communist ideology, learn to understand the policy of the Party and to work for its implementation. At the same time the Party Central Committee considered it necessary to introduce in the senior grades of secondary schools a new subject which would equip pupils with a knowledge of the scientific principles of the Marxist-Leninist outlook. This new subject is to be a popular course in the Fundamentals of Political Knowledge, to be introduced in the senior grades beginning with the 1961-1962 school year.
