Abstract

Objective To describe the current situation of self-management and quality of life of community patients with hypertension and to explore the correlation of self-management and quality of life. Methods The hypertension self-management scale and the Chinese version of the medical outcomes study item short from health survey(SF-36) were applied to investigate 224 patients with hypertension in two communities of Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. Results The mean score of those patients′ self-management was(73.15±5.78); the mean score of the quality of life was (71.78±18.84), which was at the medium level; the mean score of each dimension in the quality of life was lower than that of the norm(P<0.05); the total score of self management and the dimensions of physiological function, energy, emotional function of quality of life were positively correlated(P<0.05). Conclusions The quality of life of those patients is not at a high level, so their self management abilities should be further improved in order to enhance their quality of life.
