Abstract

A correct solution for the screw dislocation in the gauge theory of defects is presented. All field quantities are globally defined and bounded, and the solution agrees with the classical solution for the screw dislocation in the far field. The components of the engineering stress tensor and the distortion I-forms are also defined throughout the dislocation core region. They are bounded throughout the dislocation core and vanish on the axis of symmetry of the screw dislocation. The results obtained here are in exact agreement with those obtained by Eringen [5] through an analysis of the screw dislocation in the nonlocal theory of continuous media.
