Abstract

Two five year olds looked up as a jet flew over the play yard of their children's center located near an air force base. Being a child of a pilot, one child with great intent and expressive movements was explaining the aerodynamic concepts of lift, drag, and thrust to the other. She was showing with her arms and body movement what held the plane in the air. During this time, the teacher kept beckoning them to move to a table. After repeatedly ignoring the teacher to no avail, the first child stopped, looked at the teacher, then turned to the second child saying, “Let's go he wants us to string those stupid beads again!"
