Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop a computer-aided planning system for urban public transportation networks, such as bus and rail networks. This system consists of two parts: the network planning system and the computer-aided system. The network planning system is characterized by a route choice model based on the theory of disaggregate demand forecasting, and a method for evaluating alternative plans from the viewpoints of users and operator. And the computer-aided system is intended to save many man-hours in the planning process and improve the reliability of planning through repeated trials. The computer-aided planning system is applied to a real urban area and its effectiveness is examined.
