Abstract
Informed decision-making by community organizations is a critical aspect of the community development process. In 1983, the University of Maryland Extension Service implemented a computer-assisted information transfer program called ASSIST. The purpose of ASSIST was to provide communities with free practical information about how other communities have solved similar problems. This paper describes ASSIST, presents findings from a pilot program evaluation and discusses lessons learned from two years of program operation.
