Abstract
The self-excited induction generator (SEIG) has variable power output when coupled with the wind turbine. This output power across the SEIG cannot be used directly either for islanding operation or connecting it to the utility grid. The variable power across the SEIG has a number of the viable parameter such as voltage, frequency. To convert the variable power to the fixed power, the power converter is proposed in this paper. The excitation is provided by means of a capacitor in series with the power converter. By the excitation system, the reactive current is supplied to the SEIG. Thereby self-excitation of the induction generator can be done. To reduce the stress on the power converter, the capacitor is installed in series with the power converter. To reduce the harmonics in the proposed system active power filter is used. Thereby, fixed power with constant voltage and frequency is obtained at the output side.
