Abstract

The survey was conducted between September and November 1987 by a survey team formed by the Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, the Ministry of Radio, Television, and Film, scholars and students from the Beijing Broadcasting Institute and the Journalism Department of the People's University of China, and the Rural Area Survey Team of the State Bureau of Statistics. The report investigated the current status, issues, and trends of radio and television broadcasting in the underdeveloped rural areas in China. In investigating the current status of radio and television broadcasting and the impact of propaganda, the team conducted a large-scale sampling survey of radio and television audiences in the rural areas.
