Abstract

The objective of this study is to identify and analyse the barriers to green supply chain management (GSCM) implementation. A questionnaire and interview-based research method was adopted for this purpose to identify the perceptions to most significant GSCM barriers (GSCMBs) to GSCM implementation. The nationwide survey of Indian automobile organisations has been conducted to rank these identified GSCMBs. It is found that the data collected through questionnaire are sometimes very ambiguous or vague and insufficient to interpret the significant results. In this study, fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method is used to overcome this kind of deficiency for modelling the rankings of the GSCMBs to GSCM implementation. This study has attempted to identify the important and legitimate GSCMBs to GSCM implementation. The result shows that lack of top management commitment is at highest level which suggests stringent assurance at the top is needed for successful GSCM implementation. These GSCMBs rankings will help the organisations to decide their strategies to overcome the GSCMBs on a priority basis.
