Abstract

• This method utilizes a virtual bracket setup and 3D printing technology. • It reduces conventional fabrication steps. • Accurate bracket positioning can be achieved by checking the simulated tooth movement. The purpose of this report is to introduce a digital indirect bonding technique that uses a customized virtual orthodontic bracket setup and 3-dimensional printing technology. The main advantages of this methodology compared with the conventional method of indirect bonding, are a reduction in fabrication steps and optimization of bracket positioning offered by the computer-aided design–computer-aided manufacturing technology. Errors in bracket placement can be prevented by checking and confirming the simulated setup. This digital method of indirect bonding allows for more accurate bracket positioning that is achieved by scanning the patient's dentition directly without the need for recording impressions, for virtual positioning of the brackets in the desired position, and simulated orthodontic movement of teeth according to the bracket positions in real-time.
