Abstract

The knowledge of temperatures developed between two bodies of known geometry in sliding contact is very important for many practical applications. The dependence of this temperature on a dimensionless number, as is shown below, was the basis for the calculation and tabulation of this number for a variety of parameter constellations. The temperature developed between the bodies and the distribution of frictional heat were based on experimental results and analyses from the literature. The dependence of the characteristic dimensionless number on the Biot number and the body geometry was the basis for the tabulation of the characteristic number which can be applied directly
