Abstract
Shear wave velocity (Vs) calculated from Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) and from multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) are consistent in their prediction of Vs. This analysis was based upon SPT and MASW data from ten localities representing four different depositional environments across North America. Homogeneous deposits then to produce the closest agreement between MASW- and SPT-derived Vs. Poorly sorted deposits produce the least consistent agreement between MASW- and SPT-derived Vs. Further, at depths of greater than 20 meters (m) below grade, the prediction of Vs between the 2 methods can differ.
