Abstract

Often in the discourse on Christological Monotheism, there is frequent reference to key biblical passages that are used to undergird various approaches to Jewish Monotheism. This chapter focuses on a few of these texts and shows how Oneness Pentecostal readings of them offer fresh exegetical perspectives but with the numerical identity of nature between Father and Son (and Spirit) in mind. It also demonstrates that restricting hermeneutical interpretations to text like John 1:1-18, John 10:30, 1 Corinthians 8:1-6, and Philippians 2:5-11 with the framework of exegesis alone (without first or second order contextual approaches) is delimiting. The chapter assumes some familiarity with the Greek New Testament but is accessible to those willing to engage in the textual-christological conversation on a deeper level.
