Abstract

In this note the results of a simultaneous testing of 11 slightly reactive Japanese sand types, by the JIS Chemical and Mortar Bar Methods, and the Danish NaCl Bath and Simple Chemical Methods are reported. The results show that the Danish NaCl Bath Method is more severe than the JIS Chemical and Mortar Bar Methods. This is in spite of the fact that in the HIS Mortar Bar Method the alkali content of the cement is raised to 1.2% Na 2O equivalent. The results also show that the Simple Chemical Test Method could be performed on Japanese sand types. More work will have to be done before an acceptance criterion for the Simple Chemical Test Method could be estimated for Japanese sand types.
