Abstract The 15.4-Gllz map of M16 indicates the existence of three separate components. The flux density of each component was used to calculate the Lyman-continuum flux required to give the measured radio-flux density. A comparison with the Lyman-continuum flux emitted by the OB stars in the nebula indicates that not all the sources of ionization have been identified.
