Abstract

Vortex pinning properties in BiSr2CaCu2O8+δ and Bi1.8Pb0.2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ single crystals irradiated with 5.8 GeV Pb ions parallel to thec-axis were studied by using magnetotransport measurements. TheI–V characteristics measured at and in the field range of Bϕ/10<H<Bϕ (where Bϕ is the matching field) were analysed in terms of the critical scaling ofI–V characteristics when the magnetic field was parallel to the tracks. Bothsamples showed a 3D Bose-glass transition with the same critical exponents. The occurrence of the Bose-glass transition in the case of highly anisotropicBiSr2CaCu2O8+δ (γ>200) with columnar defects suggests that the pancake vortices pinned bycolumnar tracks behave as well-coupled vortex lines at fields up toBϕ.
