Abstract

Results of various finite element and closed form models developed in the attempt to evaluate and establish accurate values of the Young’s modulus, E; the shear modulus G; and the Poisson’s ratio,< for laminated composite plates having soft matrix and high fibre volume fraction are discussed in this paper. Their merits and limitations highlighted. The Finite Element Energy Method (FEEM) as a tool for the prediction of effective elastic constants for Flexible Matrix composites is proffered here as a model having no better alternative yet.
