Abstract

India is a country known for its lavish treatment to all visitors, no matter where they come from. Its visitor-friendly traditions, varied life styles and cultural heritage and colorful fairs and festivals hold abiding attractions for the tourists. The other attractions include beautiful beaches, forests and wild life and landscapes for eco-tourism, snow, river and mountain peaks for adventure tourism, technological parks and science museums for science tourism; centers of pilgrimage for spiritual tourism; heritage trains and hotels for heritage tourism. Yoga, ayurveda and natural health resorts also attract tourists. The Indian hospitality industry is seeing good times, better than ever before. Hotels across all segments are reporting strong occupancies and average rate. A buoyant domestic economy, the aviation and real estate boom, initiatives to liberalize foreign investment and improve infrastructure and, perhaps, most importantly, efforts to communicate the Brand India message have contributed to strong demand conditions in most cities across the country, with the result that India is, today, one of the world's fastest growing hotel markets. In this paper attempt has been made to compare the hotel occupancy of budget, mid-market and premium hotel. Also we have tried to find out whether type hotel and length of stay are dependent and whether type of hotel and pick season or lean season occupancy are dependent on each other.
