Abstract
This research performs a comparative analysis of basic computer skills of students in business schools of two universities—one in Southern California and the other in Singapore. A significantly higher number of students in Singapore are found to be knowledgeable in all areas of computer skills except data base. Computer accessibility in both universities varies according to the racial background of students, giving one or two groups distinct advantage over the others. While more students of Southern California have heard about the Internet, the use of this service is more widespread in Singapore. The study implies a need in the very near future for change in the basic information systems course presently taught at universities.
