Abstract

To exchange signals in the 5G sub-6 GHz band, a low profile omni-directional compact circular microstrip patch antenna with a partial ground and parasitic element is presented in this paper. The operating frequency of the antenna is 2.70–5.43 GHz. The slotted antenna is etched on a Roger RT5880 dielectric substrate having a compact size of <tex>$36\times 18\times 0.79\ \text{mm}^{3}$</tex>. Stairs and circular slots on the patch are made to enhance the intended performance parameters including larger bandwidth and better impedance matching on the antenna. It shows gain of 2.65 dB, directivity of 2.76 dBi and VSWR of 1.0521 at resonant frequency 3.23 GHz. The antenna presents very good return loss (−31.911 dB at resonant frequency 3.23 GHz). It is fed by Coaxial feeding. It has an average radiation efficiency of 94%. As the designed circular slotted patch antenna possesses a huge bandwidth of 2.73 GHz with high gain and directivity, it can be inferred that the slotted circular patch antenna operates at desired 5G sub-6 GHz band applications.
