Abstract
Abstract Curiosity about a ragtime-era ancestor has led a community college instructor to explore the wealth of resources in cyberspace. With few answers readily available in traditional library sources, one must seek new research angles: e-mail inquiries to libraries, archives, and authorities in the field; online searches through library, special collections, and genealogical databases; and newsgroups and listserv postings. In the process, researcher and community college librarian learn not only how to use technology, but also how to best insure that other institutions, organizations, and individuals honor their requests.
