Abstract

A colorimetric serum glucose assay was developed utilizing hexokinase: glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase reactions coupled with the concomitant reduction of a tetrazolium salt. The rapid, simple and specific assay requires only 10 μl or 20 μl of serum and exhibits a minimal reaction blank. Standard curves obtained with aqueous glucose standards or commercial serum calibration references were linear up to 400 mg 100 ml glucose. A variety of alternative procedures gaveidentical results, and the method correlated well with a glucose oxidase procedure.
