Abstract

In gapped power-ground planes, there is strong coupling between two sides of narrow slot. So the modeling of the gapped PG planes needs to take into account this coupling. In this paper, a circuit-oriented model is proposed for analyzing the characteristics of PG planes. An integral equation equivalent circuit (IEEC) method is used to model the arbitrary shaped PG pair, and transmission lines method is used to model the coupling of the slot. The two circuit models are combined in SPICE-like simulator, then the whole model of the gapped power-ground planes is formulated. The circuit-oriented model has been validated by commercial software HFSS. The proposed method can be used to predict the effect of decoupling capacitances.
